If your goal for this year is to hit 6 figures in your business or to move towards multiple 6 figures or perhaps even more, you need to realise that by continuing to play solo, without an assistant or virtual team, you are making it harder than you need to.

Working with team, you’ll get faster results then if you continue doing it all yourself, or with a solo virtual assistant who you think is a superhero and can do everything as well. You are selling yourself short and it’s time to stop.

Be the person who already earns 6 or 7 figures

One of my coaches always says to me, what would you be, do and say if you were already the 6 or 7 figure business owner you are striving to be? How would you act? How would you show up everyday? The answer to that question in its simplest form is, by being the boss. Taking control, building a team, focusing on generating income, bringing in new clients, strategising and creating killer content that adds tons of value.

But I bet that at the moment you aren’t focusing enough on your business. Instead I suspect you are probably wasting your valuable time entering expenses, scheduling social media posts, getting sucked into Facebook rather than being strategic.  Really you should be taking action that is going to render massive results. Let’s go back to that question – what would a 6 or 7 figure business owner be doing?

I know what I would rather be spending my time doing. Because my zone of genius sure as hell isn’t scheduling social media or inputting expenses. Mine is working with my clients, helping them to move their business forwards and managing a team for them that makes an impact. Building a business that runs like clock work in the backround, giving them the time to focus on their zone of genius, whether that’s coaching clients, speaking at events or writing another book.

If you are willing to invest 4 or 5 figures in a coach, then you also need to get serious and invest in a team. A coach is useless to you, unless you have the right support network to actually make all the ideas come to fruition. A good coach will tell you that the first thing you need to do is stop doing all the things and start delegating.

The problem is that the fear of someone not doing as good of a job as you is what stops us. Not knowing where to start or what to let go of first. And let’s face it, its hard to let go. Its your baby, you’ve nurtured it, grown it, invested huge sums of blood, sweat and probably tears along with money to get it to where it is. But you need to move over, without an assistant you are the assistant.

Think about that for a minute.

The sooner you realise this, the sooner you take action, the sooner the added pressure of having other people you are responsible for will push you to the next level. And the amazing and incredible thing about this realisation is this, you’ll have more time. More time to do what you love and by doing what you love you will naturally attract more clients and more opportunities into your life.

Surround Yourself With An Experienced Team to Grow

But how the hell do you start and where do you find a VA? If you’ve already worked your arse off to get to where you are, your best bet is to hire an experienced VA. One that can implement the systems, processes, procedures that you need. One that can create the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for you. One that has the technical knowledge of the tools required to run a successful online business. Once you find that person, you need to step into the CEO shoes and look to take someone on as your COO, someone who can run the operations, manage a team, who gets you, your business, your vision and can make sure everything just happens. A Business Manager, who can make sure shit gets done without you worrying. You just need to focus on the bigger picture and serving your clients. Then you’ll see results, pretty much instantly.

I often hear aspiring coaches and entrepreneurs who are trying to build a 6 figure business say that I need to get to x point in my business or that I need to be earning x amount per month to be able to afford a virtual assistant.

Those that want to hire a VA are often looking for an assistant that charges just $10 an hour or only want support for a few hours a month.

Here’s the thing right, you won’t be able to grow to the point in your head WITHOUT a virtual assistant, because you can’t be everything and do all the things and deliver value to your clients and grow your bottom line month on month. It is not possible to do it all.

Without a virtual assistant to help and support you, you are no more than the assistant in your business. You are not a business owner or an entrepreneur, and not outsourcing or hiring a team can actually stifle the growth of the business.

So we’ve established you need a VA to get ahead, but you don’t just need a VA. You need a highly skilled and experienced VA who gets you and your business. Who cares about your business and your success almost as much as you do (I say almost, because you won’t ever find anyone that cares as much as you, it is your baby after all). The term solopreneur isn’t one I’d heard of before entering the realm of running my own business. It was a former client of mine that used the solopreneur term in her messaging and reflecting back, that is exactly what she was. She had accurately described herself. So what camp do you fall into? Lone wolf or pack leader? Let’s explore the differences and how using a virtual assistant or online business manager can help uplevel your business.

What the heck is a solopreneur?

In case you aren’t entirely sure what a solopreneur is or how it differs from an entrepreneur, let’s define a solopreneur as a lone wolf. Someone who is happy plodding along, growing their business but who has zero intention of hiring staff. EVER. They are happy working in their business, delivering projects and serving their clients. They may love networking, but they are at their happiest just working.

The purpose of a solopreneur is to build a sustainable business. They are happy to work hard to build it, doing everything themselves.

A few examples might be a web designer, a freelance writer or a graphic designer.

Right, so how are entrepreneurs different?

Mindset. Whilst at the beginning of starting their business, entrepreneurs are equally as happy to get stuck in doing everything in their business and wearing all the hats, the fundamental difference is their mindset. They are only willing to do all that, but only until they can hire a team. They want to scale and grow, and they know hiring a team will enable them to achieve their goals much faster than by doing everything themselves.  They are confident leading a team and at delegating tasks.

Entrepreneurs will often have more than one business, or start a business, sell it and then start another new business. Solopreneurs tend to stick with what they know.

How can both benefit from a VA or OBM?

Right off the bat an entrepreneur will benefit from both a VA at the beginning of his business journey and an Online Business Manager once the business is more established, since an OBM is that safe pair of hands. The business strategist and general manager that holds the vision of the entrepreneur and manages the team to get shit done.

A solopreneur would benefit massively from a VA, to help them a few hours a week or month to keep on top of the general admin that is involved with running a business. Whether that is bookkeeping, diary management, customer service support, client follow up, issuing contracts etc. There are a number of tasks a virtual assistant can do to help and support a solopreneur from becoming overwhelmed, stressed and burned out from doing it all.
