You see, as business owners we have a tendancy to wear all the hats, we are the finance guy, the social media manager, the sales and marketing director as well as the administrative assistant. We spend far too much time juggling a million balls all at the same time. The biggest problem is, when you feel completely overwhelmed you also have a tendancy to get distracted and sidetracked a whole lot more. Then our friend procrastination pays us a visit. You find yourself going around in circles, feeling lost because you don’t know what you should be focusing on anymore. It all becomes too much. We’ve all been there. You’ve worked damn hard and long hours to get to where you are, but for your own santiy and to avoid business burnout, it is time for change.

It’s time to hire help

There comes a point in every business, where you need to stop the self sabotaging. If the prospect of hiring or outsourcing to someone feels you with dread and you start to think – “Nobody can do it as well as me”, “If I have to constantly hold someone’s hand and tell them what to do I might as well get on and do it myself”, then you need to stop and shift your mindset. What is the point in you spending hours trying to learn how to do something when someone like a virtual assistant can do it for you, faster and cost you a lot less money.

I get that your business in your baby. You have given birth to it and invested a great deal of time and money in it. Whilst there may be an element of truth in those thoughts running through your head, there is also the unknown. If you don’t try you will never know and it’s all about finding the right person for you and your business. You need to accept the fact that for you to continue to provide the level of service you want to your clients, and take your business in the direction you want then you need a helping hand. If you don’t hire help, you will effectively end up working for less than the minimum wage and costing yourself a lot of money in the longrun.

Continuing to work IN the business is costing you, not just in monetary terms. Your business can’t and won’t grow without you focusing ON the business. By starting to delegate the time consuming tasks, the ones that you really don’t need to do you will become more productive and a whole lot less stressed. You will be able to spend a little more time on you (self care is so important as a business owner) and you will also get back time to spend with your friends and family.

Still think you can’t afford to hire someone? Believe me, even if you are just starting out you can afford it. You don’t need a full time assistant. The beauty of enlisting the help of a virtual assistant is that you can use them as much or as little as you want. If you just need help for an hour a week to schedule your social media, that is one hour you can spend scheduling calls with potential clients (an income generating activity). You just need to get really clear on where you need help and hire someone to undertake those tasks for you.

Afterall I bet you didn’t go into business to work all the hours under the sun. You quit the safety of your job to take the leap into the world of entrepreneurship because you wanted greater flexibility, to work on your terms and to do what you love. It’s time to start sharing your message with the world.
